In this example, the first image is too dark, as is made obvious by the fact that the wedding dress in the photo appears gray.  Since it is uncertain whether the garment is supposed to be white or ivory, I used the model's skin tone as a reference.  The second image shows the brighter version, after level and hue adjustments (a small spot was removed as well).
